The joy of playing at open air gigs on a good English summer is undeniable. Now, 'this summer', well that's another thing altogether. And as for a gig on the August bank holiday Saturday and another on the Sunday with the heavens opening up every few hours and thunder and lightning ominously on the horizon, it seemed that we were going to get wet, wetter than Wet Wet Wet in fact!
However, and some may say we have more luck that is fair, our timings turned out perfect ( for us anyway). Saturday and our gig was at the Worlington Beer Festival ( our second time around), Steve and the team put on a great event with lots and lots of live music. The sun started shinning the moment we started setting up our equipment (well as much as you could see of it through some thin grey clouds) but it was nice enough that we had a good audience watching, jigging and singing along. This is really what we want, we have so much more fun playing when we see people up and dance or singing along with us.

Fortunately/unfortunately depending on your view point, just as our drummer Paul hit the last cymbal on our last song of the set, the first drop of rain came down, followed very quickly by a lot more . Still we had had a great time, but did feel sorry for the bands following us.
Then came the Sunday, we were playing at The Fox in Burwell at their beer festival that afternoon. Sitting at home in the morning watching wave after wave of rain that could only be describe as a monsoon, I was starting to think our luck had run out. Driving to the gig, the intense thunder and lightning created the only shining light in an otherwise black sky. however this had turned to a mere 'drizzle by the time we arrived.
Plans had to change as the other band performing that night had to pull out as their drummer had broken a leg, so some rejigging and extension of our set list was required. The drizzle eased as we set up, and 'blast me boh' as they say in these here parts, the sky started to clear the weather got warmer and for the rest of the evening it was lovely. Bob the owner and his team had put on a great event and the beer gardens there are immense and lovely, an ideal place for adults and kids to have a good time. We had a blast and once again the audience were great, lots of singing along and some dancing as well!
So, yes we are jammy! The question is can our luck hold as we are playing this Saturday 2rd September at the Carpenter's Arms in Soham, kick off is at 2:00 pm if you are feeling lucky as well, come along and join us for music drinks and good food. Larry
